Sunshades Tint & Sound was founded in 2006 by Robert Gonzales, a lifelong Austin resident raised in both South and North Austin. Robert began his professional Master Technician career immediately after school while working with Sunbusters, where he spent 14 years refining his expertise in automotive window film and electronics installation.
Today, Sunshades operates from its North Austin location along US-183. Since opening, the company has partnered with 3M Window Films, specializing in 3M Crystalline high-performance ceramic tint for the Austin, Texas market. Sunshades is 3M Certified as a preferred installer for Crystalline (CR) Black 70% and 80% windshield films, offering some of the clearest, legally compliant windshield tint options available in Austin.
In addition to window tinting, Sunshades provides custom installation services for mobile electronics, including radar detectors, car alarms, and dash camera sales and installation. The company has also expanded into high-end automotive and marine audio, serving Austin and the greater Central Texas region with precision fabrication and advanced system integration.

Sunshades Tint & Sound was featured by KVUE Austin News for repurposing our Austin automotive electronics and fabrication shop during COVID-19 to produce face shields for healthcare workers, first responders, and essential-service teams.
The story, titled “Austin auto audio shop making face shields | KVUE,” showed how our team used CNC machines, laser cutters, acrylic benders, and design tools to manufacture more than 18,000 PETG face shields and acrylic counter stands for the Austin community.
This was not a marketing project. It was a community response. When normal vehicle work stopped, our shop shifted from building subwoofer enclosures, tinting vehicles, integrating radar systems, and installing dash cams to producing protective equipment for people serving Austin on the front lines.

Sunshades of Austin, Texas was founded in 2006 by Robert Gonzales following his 14-year career with another established Austin window tint company. ( Sunbusters Tint ) Over the years, window tinting in Austin has evolved significantly, driven by advances in computer-cutting software and major improvements in window film technology.
Sunshades is proud to be Austin’s longest-running 3M Crystalline dealer, serving as a preferred installer for more than 16 years. The shop specializes in high-performance window film installations that meet modern vehicle standards while remaining compliant with Texas regulations.
In addition to window tinting, Sunshades provides advanced vehicle security and convenience solutions, including car alarm systems and remote start installations. These systems are often paired together to enhance both vehicle protection and everyday usability, with clean, factory-style integration.
Sunshades also serves the high-end car and marine audio market, installing premium mobile electronics for cars, boats, and trucks throughout Texas. Additional services include radar detectors, dash camera systems, and integrated remote-access solutions, Starlink Installation for RV's and Trailers with all installs handled with a focus on reliability, performance, and long-term support.
