Uniden Radar Detector Installation Austin

Portable

Detector lives on the windshield with the factory cord. Quick to start with, easy to move between vehicles. Most clients move past this once they live with a clean install.

Hardwired

Power tapped from the fuse box or mirror, cable hidden behind A-pillar and headliner. Looks factory. The right baseline for an R4w or R8w.

Custom integrated

R9 / R9w with concealed front and rear radar modules, hidden display, control button placed where it belongs. Built around the vehicle, not bolted onto it.

Austin driving environments

Configured for the roads you actually drive

Austin throws a lot of false alerts at a detector. We tune and lock out so the system stays useful, not noisy.

Mopac (Loop 1)

Mixed speeds, dense traffic, frequent automatic-door false alerts at retail along the corridor.

183 / 183A

Tolled corridors, long sightlines, higher cruising speeds north of Anderson Mill, Wilco.

360 Loop

Curves, elevation, short sight windows. Directional alerts earn their keep here.

I-35

Heavy commercial traffic, lots of K-band noise. Filtering and lockouts matter most here.

Hill Country

290 W, 71, Hamilton Pool, RR 12. Open road where long-range pickup actually pays off.

Dense city core

Rollingwood ,Lakeway, Westlake, Bee Caves, Georgetown, Downtown Austin, South Congress, the Domain. Quite ride Technology keeps the system quiet under 20 mph. Undetectable. Laser detection with protection when it matters.

Vehicle-specific installs

In Austin, it is best to have the unit installed out of site with our main goal  to be as stealth as possible.  The system should disappear into the car being unnoticed.  With our 3d scan approach we can design the perfect solution with precision.

Porsche

911, Cayenne, Taycan, Macan. Clean mirror-tap power, hidden A-pillar routing, control placement that doesn't fight the cabin.

BMW · Mercedes · Audi

M3 / M4, AMG, RS. Factory-grade wiring, dimmer integration where supported, R8w as the common starting point.

Tesla · Rivian · EV

Model S/3/X/Y, R1T, R1S, Lucid, EQS. EV-aware power sources, no parasitic draw, headliner work that respects glass roofs.

Trucks & SUVs

Raptor, TRX, Tahoe, Suburban, Grand Wagoneer. Front and rear coverage that actually matches the your vehicle's footprint.

Exotics

Lamborghini, Ferrari, McLaren, GT3. R9 / R9w full stealth & Reversible work, documented, photographed.

Motorcycles

We can fit most any detector setups for select bikes. We'll tell you up front, not many bikes have we have seen we have not created the solution.

Why professional setup matters

A Uniden is only as good as the install behind it

Most of what makes a Uniden useful happens after the box is open. Where it sits, how it's powered, how it's configured, and how it's tested — that's the work.

Wiring

Hidden behind A-pillar, headliner, and trim. Factory-grade routing, no zip-tie nests.

Updates

Firmware current at delivery. App paired. Account set up. You drive away ready.

Power

Switched, fused, EV-safe. No parasitic draw, no flicker, no random reboots.

Placement

Height, angle, and view through the glass. Wrong placement quietly kills range.

Filtering & lockouts

K-band filtering and GPS lockouts tuned to your actual routes around Austin.

Testing & handoff

Drive test, walkthrough, photos of hidden work, and a written handoff. No mysteries later.

Sunshades has over 3 decades of installation experience, have faith you are working with professionals that are knowledgeable and fit for the job.

Responsible use

Awareness, not aggression

Radar detectors exist to make drivers more aware of their environment. Texas allows passenger-vehicle radar detector use, but laws vary by state, by vehicle class, and over time. We can't make legal guarantees about any specific situation. We can install your Uniden cleanly, configure it correctly, and ask you to use it responsibly — speed limits, conditions, and the people around you come first.

  • Drive within posted limits and conditions.

  • Commercial vehicles and certain jurisdictions have different rules — confirm your local laws.

  • A detector is an awareness tool, not a license to ignore the road.

Pair it right

Most Uniden builds don't show up alone

We often install both the radar and a dash cam at one time.  With a while we are at it special pricing.

When you want the protection off the line without any worries.  Call us before it arrives.  We can have your appointment set when it arrives and passes through the pdi (pre delivery inspection) at the local dealership.

Our clients often pick one of our other services in the same visit with any of our heat reducing window tint products.  With a focus on heat and aesthetics.

We like to say is not going to hurt the Starbucks budget we can do a full package.  The works, our audio is not the same.  We create excellence in motion. With products from the best in car audio, see them here.

FAQ

Uniden, asked and answered

Which Uniden should I buy? For a clean daily driver, the R4w. For most performance and highway clients, the R8w. For luxury and exotic builds where the system should disappear into the car, the R9 or R9w. We'll walk through your routes and vehicle before you order.

Will a hardwire void anything? A correctly fused, switched, and routed hardwire taps existing power circuits without modifying factory harnesses. We document the work and keep it reversible.

Do you install on Tesla, Rivian, and other EVs? Yes. EV power sources, glass roofs, and headliner construction need a different approach than ICE cars — we work around all of it.

Can I bring my own detector? Yes. We install client-supplied Uniden units. We'll flag firmware or fitment issues before we start.

How long does a Uniden install take? R4w hardwires are typically a same-day appointment. R8w with rear and app setup runs longer. R9 / R9w custom integrated builds are scheduled around the full vehicle plan.

Will the detector be visible? Visibility is your choice. Most clients want the display visible and the wiring invisible. R9 / R9w builds can hide nearly everything.
