Sunshades Tint & Sound — When Austin Needed Us Most

Sunshades Tint & Sound is a custom car audio shop.
On any normal day, we’re installing window tint in cars or houses, building subwoofer enclosures, fitting dash cams, and integrating radar systems for our clients across Central Texas.

Then the pandemic hit.

It was a scary, surreal moment in all of our lives.

That evening, we had just finished a project for a client in Lago Vista, right on the lake. Like everyone else, we started hearing the same message everywhere:

!!!!!Do not report to work unless you are essential!!!!!

We were car audio guys.
Window tint specialists.
Fabricators.

And suddenly, everything stopped.

!!!!!Your not going in houses, the office' or any Car!!!!!

But our phones didn’t.

Friends started calling. Conversations changed. We looked around our shop—at our CNC machines, laser cutters, acrylic benders, and design tools—and realized we could help.

So we pivoted.

No more birch subwoofer enclosures.
No more mobile electronic enhancements being fabricated.

Instead, we repurposed our tools and talent to produce personal protective equipment. Over 18,000 PETG face shields and acrylic counter stands were ultimately manufactured right here in our shop for the Austin community.

Our plan was simple: give them away for free.

Austin didn’t let us do it alone.

Donations came in from our clients, from friends, and from people as far away as New Jersey. The support was overwhelming. We had the means. We had the heart. And we did it the Sunshades way—quietly, efficiently, and together.

Our design team adapted fast. The shop transformed. What was once dedicated to high-end mobile electronics became a production line focused on helping others. For weeks—then months—our daily work shifted completely.

We became essential.

The face shields were distributed with the help of countless people and organizations. Hospitals, dental offices, veterinary clinics, first responders, and agencies from across the region came together. This wasn’t just us—it was an entire community moving as one.

We want to thank KVUE Austin News for helping get the word out.
And thank you, Austin, for reminding us that we didn’t have to be scared alone.

We went through this together.
We lost together.
And we stood up for each other.

With Sunshades on your team, you are part of one of the strongest car audio and fabrication networks in the U.S.—and beyond. We never expected our skills to be used this way, but when the moment came, we answered.

God bless our country and all who stand for it.

You never know when you’ll be called to help.
But when you are—you’ll know what to do.
